Troop 5659 multi-level "Think like an Engineer" Journey

ree

Last July, two Daisies, four Brownies, and one Junior completed the Multi-Level Think Like an Engineer Journey at Meadow Mountain Ranch.

Twenty percent of Colorado’s native bumblebee species are facing endangerment due to climate change, habitat loss, and pesticides. One of the Girl Scouts had recently seen a tree cut down in her community and was saddened by it.

For their Take Action Project, they made a how-to presentation on building a bee hotel. Bee hotels provide nesting spaces for solitary bees, which don’t live in hives. They wrote down their thoughts about protecting bee habitats and read them aloud, made artwork showing the bee hotels in action, and performed as a bee.

One of Brownies wrote a song to the tune of Make New Friends:

Bees need homes

Don’t cut them down

Flowers need them to pollinate

Hey!

They hope their instructions will encourage viewers to build nesting spaces for important pollinators and protect their habitats.
