Start your next Girl Scout journey with a Bridging Ceremony

It’s been another exciting Girl Scout year for girls and volunteer across Colorado! If you’re getting ready to bridge to the next Girl Scout level, CONGRATULATIONS! This a time to celebrate with your Girl Scout sisters and think about what you would like your next step to be.

National Bridging Week is May 4-11, 2019. Bridging is an important transition in a Girl Scout’s life and most girls and troops celebrate with a Bridging Ceremony. This is a defining moment when a Girl Scout becomes aware of her achievements and is ready for new adventures and responsibilities.  Here are some tips to have a successful Bridging Ceremony:

  1. The planning process should be girl-led.Let girls have fun planning a ceremony they feel celebrates their accomplishments. This is also a great way to make sure the activities are engaging and memorable for everyone involved!

  2. Don’t worry about finding an actual bridge. Bridging ceremonies often utilize a bridge as girls take literal steps toward the future. For Girl Scouts, the act of crossing the bridge is both a physical and symbolic step. However, a “make believe” bridge will work and can be as simple as laying down masking tape.

  3. Rainbow themes are fun and have meaning. You can use the colors of the Membership Star grade-level discs to make a Girl Scouts rainbow.

  4. Blue for Daisy

  5. Green for Brownie

  6. Yellow for Junior

  7. White for Cadette

  8. Red for Senior

  9. Navy Blue for Ambassador

Be sure to share your story and photos of your Bridging Ceremony with us! Just use the Share Your Stories form: www.gscoblog.org/share. The best stories and photos will be shared on the GSCO Blog and social media networks and perhaps, with media outlets in your region.

Many Girl Scouts choose to earn the Bridging Award for their level. Earning the award offers girls chance to look back on what they’ve accomplished while looking to the future. Each level of Girl Scouting has its own unique bridging award patch.
