Plastics Be Gone! - A Silver Award Project by Hanna

Hanna, a Cadette in Troop 76905, is addressing the big issue of microplastics pollution in community waterways as a Silver Award project.

This issue matters to Hanna because of the rising amount of microplastics that are being emitted into the community environment and the oceans. When microplastics get into environments, they can be washed into waterways or consumed by animals.

A root cause of the issue is littering. You may look around and find trash all about your community; it doesn't always get thrown directly into water. Often, this trash gets blown into waterways by the wind instead. When this happens, it causes the animals and environment around to face negative impacts.

Hanna used her passion for digital design to create four educational awareness posters. Her microplastics pollution awareness posters were on public display at the Superior Community Center through February 15, 2026. Pledge forms are also available for community members to support her mission by pledging a small change in plastic use to help reduce plastic pollution in communities.
