Inspiring Futures – Paleontologist

Did you know that Paleontology is more than just researching and studying dinosaurs? Paleontologists are scientists who examine the fossilized remnants of all kinds of organisms (plants, animals and more), and are interested in knowing the history of natural life on earth.

On February 10, 2022, meet Dr. Gussie Maccracken and learn about her job as a paleontologist at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. She’ll tell us all about her passion to dig fossil leaves from all over the world, including right here in Colorado, and bringing them back to the museum to study. Her work includes preparing and fixing any broken fossil leaves in the laboratory, carefully cataloging the specimens (like the catalogue of your library) and studying the leaves to understand what kinds of plants lived in ancient forests.
