Cadette and Senior "Think like an Engineer" Journey

ree

Over the summer, Cadette Ellie and Senior Kiko of Multi-Level Troop 65659 went to Meadow Mountain Ranch and completed the Think Like an Engineer Journey.

For their Take Action Project, they wanted to address the topic of wildfires in Colorado that are caused by campfires. Both girls enjoy watching videos by engineer Mark Rober. They planned and directed a short film based on one of his episodes. Kiko directed and edited the film. Ellie and Kiko’s sister, a Junior, played starring roles.

Kiko described the plan this way, “When the campers don't put out their fire, someone's going to put out a speaker. And they're going to hear whispering in their tent and… They're going to come out like, what on earth? They're going to start putting out the fires, hopefully, and then they're going to spread the awareness on to other people.”

Ellie said, “I want to protect all the animals and help people learn from their mistakes by not putting out the fire… We want it to try and be sustainable. We want it to go on for as long as possible to stop forest fires.”

They shared their film with their troop and families with a call to action: “Put out your fires! Put them out!”
